10 New York Charities Worth Supporting on Giving Tuesday

New Yorkers Facing Hunger, Homelessness, and Addiction Find Hope Through These Ten Organizations

As Black Friday gives way to Cyber Monday, let’s not forget those less fortunate. Giving Tuesday, November 28th, reminds us that even amidst holiday excitement, the needs of our neighbors don’t disappear. Many New Yorkers struggle with hunger, homelessness, and finding a stable footing in life.

This is a call to action. Ten deeply impactful New York organizations stand ready to help, but they need our support. Please join me in contributing – even a small amount can make a real difference.

Combatting Hunger in Our City:

  • Over 47 million Americans face food insecurity. Right here in NYC, 1.2 million residents lack adequate food. Hunger is often perceived as linked to homelessness, but 90-95% of those struggling with food insecurity have homes. Hunger Free America conjugates research with advocacy to tackle this crisis, shedding light on the true picture and advocating for solutions. [DONATE: Remember, New York still lags in school breakfast participation. This won’t change unless we push for it.]

  • Hunger threatens children, with nearly a quarter in our city facing insecurity. But Citymeals on Wheels focuses on another vulnerable population: homebound senior citizens. They provide meals and companionship to 22,000 seniors daily, surrounded by a community of 18,000 volunteers. Older adults are chagrin to times – their stories are powerful, reminding us of the city we build together.

  • While volunteering alongside volunteers at the Bowery Mission on Thanksgiving, I witnessed firsthand how essential this 150-year-old institution is. A surge in need has meant serving 27% more meals than last year. With 130,000 people facing homelessness, community support is desperately needed. The Bowery Mission is stepping up, but they need assistance: "Help our city – donate twice the positive impact!" [DONATE: Double your donation thanks to a generous matching grant]
