Whether current series highlights or Hollywood blockbusters – there are cool locations everywhere in Germany. To get in the mood, there’s the must-watch list that guarantees you won’t get bored on the sofa either. The travel reporter will introduce them to you.
1. The Queen’s Gambit (2020): Checkmate in Berlin
The young Elizabeth Harmon proves that chess is not only for men in the Netflix miniseries “The Queen’s Gambit”. 62 million viewers have accompanied the young woman on her way to becoming world champion in chess. And it by no means only leads through the USA, Paris or Moscow – if you look closely, you will discover some of the scenes in the capital Berlin. This is what the portal “kurz-mal-weg.de” found out.
For example, the vacant Schulzendorf Palace in Brandenburg served as the backdrop for the orphanage in which Elizabeth grew up, and for the US Open in Chess, the performers spent the night in the Palais am Funkturm on the Berlin Exhibition Center. In addition, the attentive viewer may notice the filming locations of the Berlin Zoo, the foyer of the Bode Museum, the Friedrichstadt-Palast and the Monbijou Bridge.
2. Dark (2020): Mystery in Brandenburg
Mystery can also work in German: This is proven by the first completely German Netflix production “Dark”. The dark series is now even celebrating international success. The focus is on the young Jonas Kahnwald, who lives in the fictional German town of Winden and travels through time through an eerie cave and is confronted with his older self.
The cave was built in a depression in the Saarmunder Forest – here serial junkies will also find a forest hut where the film was shot. The nuclear power plant also plays a central role – the recordings were made in an abandoned chemical plant in Rüdersdorf. Other locations that you can visit were the Reinfeld School in Berlin-Charlottenburg and the Southwest Cemetery in Stahnsdorf.
Is that not enough for you? Then take a look:
3. How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) (2020): Umschlagplatz Köln-Weiden

The fictional technology center, for example, represents the Elbphilharmonie. Film enthusiasts will find other locations in the Hafencity and on the Inner Alster.

A classic by the successful author Stieg Larsson is the thriller “Conspiracy”. The continuation of his trilogy tells the dramatic story of a hacker named Lisbeth Salander. The focus is always on the relationship with her sister Camille.
