According to police, one of those killed is a police officer. It is not stated exactly how many were killed. A man has been arrested. Police confirm that the suspect is injured.
The shooting happened in and outside the King Soopers store in Boulder.
Boulder Police Chief Maris Heriold said the killed policeman was the first to arrive at the scene after the first reports of the shooting came. She says both he and the police came after him, all behaved heroically.
A huge rally of heavily armed police marked the place for several hours after the first report of the shooting came around 2.30 local time.
For over five hours, the situation was unclear, and an “active shooter” was reported.
This is the second mass shooting in the United States in a week. In Atlanta, eight people were killed 17. mars.
Man led away in handcuffs
TV pictures from the scene showed a white man in only his underwear being taken away by the police. He had blood running down his leg and was handcuffed. He was driven away from the scene in an ambulance. The police state that he received treatment at a local hospital. No more injuries have been reported.
According to Boulder police, the investigation is ongoing, and forensic technicians are working inside the supermarket.
Boulder Police Chief Kerry Yamaguchi says the detainee has not been questioned and police do not know the motive for the shooting.
Police stress that details will not be given until the families of the victims have been notified.
A separate relatives’ center has been set up where people who miss theirs can contact us. Police are also asking witnesses to report.

Heard shooting, everyone ran
A man who was in the store told the TV station ABC News that he heard a loud bang, and saw another. When it slammed for the third time, everyone started running, the man said.
Witnesses have told the Associated Press that they have seen several people lying on the ground in the parking lot outside the store and also inside the store, but it has not been confirmed how many have died.
TV pictures from the place show that some of the windows in the shop are broken. Photos show a number of police vehicles and many heavily armed police officers outside. At least three helicopters landed on the roof of the building where the supermarket is located.
