EY – Ernst & Young – is a financial audit firm, one of the five largest in the world, headquartered in the tallest tower in La Défense. His job is usually to study the accounts of companies and advise their bosses on the best way to save money by restructuring and increasing their employees’ production. It appears that EY applied its methods to its own staff. As part of an agreement signed on 1is July with the CFE-CGC, the majority union in the company, but against the advice of the CGT and the CFTC, EY abolished the limit of 48 hours per week of working time for executives. This limit is however specified in the collective agreement of the sector.

This attack on their working conditions and the risks it poses to their health prompted a response from employees. The thousands of employees who work at La Défense were not used to seeing executives and accountants forming a picket line and distributing leaflets at the foot of this luxurious tower.
