The American Diabetes Association recommends that most adults begin diabetes screening at age 35, and for those who are obese before age 35. According to what was published by the Times of India newspaper, experts warn against consuming certain foods and drinks, some of which are unthinkable, and which can lead to raising blood sugar levels, as follows:
1. Diet soda
Studies have found that consuming zero-calorie artificial sweeteners, such as those found in diet sodas, increases blood sugar levels over the long term.
2. Instant oatmeal
Oatmeal can be great for weight loss, but because it’s processed and stripped of fiber, it will cause a spike in blood sugar.
3. Orange juice
Juicing oranges removes fiber and thus slows down the breakdown of starch into glucose, so it is recommended to eat fruit instead of juice to avoid high blood sugar levels.
4. Bread
White bread and whole-grain bread have a high glycemic index, meaning they can raise your blood sugar quickly and sharply.
5. Soup is ready
Ready-made or instant soups contain a lot of added sugar, which can cause your blood sugar to spike.
6. Grapes
Grapes are high in sugar and relatively low in fiber, which can cause a spike in blood sugar.
7. Energy bars
Although energy bars are promoted as not causing weight gain, they contain as much or more sugar and carbohydrates as some traditional candy bars.
8. Brown rice
Brown rice has more health benefits than white rice, but it is generally higher in carbohydrates, so it often results in higher blood sugar.
9. Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes are high in starch and can cause high blood sugar in some people, especially if eaten in large quantities.
10. Coffee
Caffeine can cause a spike in blood sugar levels by triggering a hormonal response in the body.
