Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots would be the next big game in the FPS franchise and would be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and also for the new generation that was arriving, the Xbox One e PlayStation 4. The game was announced in 2011 and was scheduled to be released in 2013.

It had a similar idea to previous games in the franchise. Rainbow Six, a single-player narrative experience where you control your character and also give order to your squad. The studio started having problems getting the game to work well on two generations and I wanted to use as much of the new consoles as I could. As a result, the project ended up being abandoned, with the developers starting production of Rainbow Six Siegeone of the most popular multiplayer games today.

Agent

Agent would be a game about stealth produced by Rockstar Northresponsible for GTA V. The project was announced at E3 2007 and would be exclusive to PlayStation 3 in a partnership with Sony. Agent would be a game set in the 70’s that players would get to know the world of espionage and assassinationit was said in 2009 that the project was a longtime dream of Rockstar that was finally coming to life.

Since then, no word about Agent was mentioned, even though the brand has been renewed a few times over the years and in 2018 listed as abandoned. With the success and several updates of GTA Vit’s hard to imagine that Agent is still in development.

THQ’s Avengers

With the success of Marvel Cinematic Universeit was possible to see several games with movie heroes and, in 2012, the THQ planned a game of Avengers to get close to the film. It would be released to Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 3 e PC and would be inspired by the comics of Secret Invasion.

The game would be in first person and would have a cooperative focus, where each player chooses their hero and advances through the level with their friends. But THQ was experiencing financial problems due to the failure of Homefrontcausing the project to be canceled in 2013 along with the end of the studio.

Doom 4

Doom is one of the most important gaming franchises, being one of the main responsible for creating the genre FPS. But after the release of the third game in 2004, the franchise seemed to come to an end, no longer being highlighted among successful FPS.

Em 2011, Doom 4 was announced and promised a renewal of the franchise, bringing a more narrative. The idea was not very well received by fans and the production remained in development limbo for a few years, with almost no progress. Some people managed to play a initial release of the game and said there was no no personality and it looked a lot like Call of Duty.

Possibly a ID Software decided to cancel the project and start a reboot of the franchise, which resulted in the Doom the 2016. The game managed to bring new light to the franchise, which found its own place as a shooter, but different from Call of Duty.

Fable Legends

The generation of Xbox One was quite turbulent for Microsoft, which featured not very interesting games, studio closures and cancellations, including that of Fable Legends. The new franchise project would be a asymmetric multiplayerwhere a group of 4 players would be in control of the heroes, while we would have one person controlling the big villain, summoning creatures and placing traps around the scene.

The game, which was being developed by Lionhead, was announced in 2013 with a cinematic trailer and in 2014 some of its gameplay was shown during E3. In 2016 the Lionhead has closed and with that Fable Legends it was canceled. The reason for the cancellation goes beyond the end of the studio, as Microsoft cites the big costs of production, which was already around $75 million and it wasn’t finished yet.

Prey 2

Prey is a game released in 2006, developed by Human Head Studios, which shows the protagonist Domasi “Tommy” Tawodi being abducted by aliens along with his companions and now needs to escape. The game worked in the same way as Half Life and a sequel was announced in the same year, but development only started in 2009.

In 2011, there was finally a trailer for Prey 2 was released, showing a futuristic city, with the protagonist hunting some bounties. The trailer showed several weapons and gadgets that left many people excited. But since then no information has been revealed and the project ended up being canceled by Bethesda for not being able achieve the necessary quality standard.

But that wasn’t the last time the name Prey emerged, as in 2017 the Arkane released a game using the name, but it doesn’t have many similarities with the 2006 production.

Starcraft: Ghost

Starcraft: Ghost was a game announced in 2002 that sought to expand Blizzard’s Sci-fi universe. The project would bring as protagonist Nova and it would be a game that mixes action and stealth, like Metal Gear Solid. In 2004, it was announced that Blizzard had handed the project over to another studio called Swingin Ape Studios and after that no information about Starcraft: Ghost was released. In 2014 Blizzard officially announced that the project was canceled.

Among the reasons for cancellation is the lack of a consistent direction for the project. Nihilistic claims that Blizzard constantly asked to add new features to the game and meant that it didn’t even have a very well-defined genre. With the change and the arrival of Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3the project was abandoned due to the effort it would take to adapt what was done for a new generation of consoles and finish the job.

Scalebound was the great promise of Xbox One, a console that has had a difficult life since its announcement. The game would be a collaboration between Microsoft as in Platinum Gamesknown for the franchise Bayonetta and it would be an action RPG where the protagonist would fight alongside his dragon and would also have multiplayer for up to 4 players.

It was announced in 2014 and in 2016, an extensive gameplay video was shown during E3 and ended up not attracting much attention. In 2017, the project was canceled for reasons not officially disclosed, but many stated that the Platinum failed to meet Microsoft’s expectations.

In 2019 the president of Platinum, Atsushi Inaba commented that he felt that both sides failed with Scalebound and also said that the team would love to return to the game. Currently the brand rights are with Microsoft.

Star Wars 1313

Star Wars 1313developed by Lucasarts, was announced during E3 2012 and would be an action game where players would be in control of a bounty hunter entering a underground metropolis on Coruscant. With no one to work on the project, Star Wars 1313 It ended up being canceled after the layoffs.

Silent Hills

Perhaps Silent Hills is the most well-known cancellation in the gaming industry and also the one that leaves the public most sad. In 2014, the Konami released a demo called P.T (Playable Teaser) exclusively for the PlayStation 4. To this day, the short demo is one of the best horror productions for video games and ends by showing Norman Reedus as the protagonist of Silent Hillsthe new project of the great franchise that would have Hideo Kojima in the direction and with the collaboration of Guillermo Del Toro.

At the time of this announcement, the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was nearing its end and a concern between Kojima and Konami was growing bigger and bigger, resulting in a split between Kojima and the studio. With the problem between the director of Silent Hills and the company that held the rights, the project was officially canceled.

Although we never saw what Silent Hills would be like, Kojima brought Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro for Death Strandingthe first project from Kojima Productions.
