That’s what it’s about
Prince George celebrates his birthday on Saturday.
The firstborn of Princess Kate (41) and Prince William (41) is ten years old.
On the occasion of his special day, we reveal surprising facts about the future king.
The heir to the throne
When George was born on July 22, 2013, there was a small sensation. It was only the second time that three generations of direct line of succession had all been alive at the same time. The last time this happened was between 1894 and 1901, at the end of Queen Victoria’s reign.
The ignorant
Prince George is the second heir to the British throne and looks forward to a momentous future. He’s aware of that now, but it wasn’t always like that. “William and Kate wanted to protect the children from the idea that they were royal,” a friend of the Fabulous family explains – and reveals: “In fact, George didn’t know he was royal.”
The ignorant prince was told at events like “Trooping the Color” that the Queen was a “very special lady and very popular”. He only recently found out about the important role he plays in the royal family. ‘You told him only recently that one day he will be king. It was a delicate balancing act to protect his childhood and innocence.”
The sports freak
George loves sports. The royal has been on the court since he was five and even got tennis lessons from Roger Federer. “At this stage it’s just about touching the ball, that’s fine,” revealed the 41-year-old, according to “Hello” magazine at the time. “I love to see that he is interested in tennis or sports, his mother always enjoyed tennis.” George also plays football at school and, like his father William, supports Aston Villa. In winter, the birthday child seems to switch from the grass to the slopes. According to “Elle”, Princess Kate revealed during a trip to Norway in 2018 that her eldest had his first ski lesson in the French Alps when he was two years old.
The firstborn
Princess Kate actually planned to give her firstborn a different name. “Although Kate apparently suspected it was a boy and actually wanted the name Alexander, it was not clear to the last what his name would be,” said royal expert Katie Nicholl, according to “Vanity Fair”. Ultimately, Kate and William settled on George, but Alexander is the little royal’s middle name.
The spaghetti lover
Chef Aldo Zilli, who works with Prince William at charity Centrepoint, revealed George loves Italian cuisine. “It seems his little boy’s favorite dish is spaghetti carbonara. So I’m waiting for the call to cook them for him,” he told the Daily Mail.
The cooking fan
George also likes to be in the kitchen himself, as Mama Kate revealed to the manager of Lavender Primary School in London in 2019. “She told us how much her children love to cook. The other day they made Käsespätzle. One stirs the flour, another puts in the milk and butter. And they make salads and stuff.”
The nameless child
Although Winnie-the-Pooh was first published in 1926, Disney released a digital picture book, Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday, in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday. It features Piglet with an unnamed child who looks a lot like George.
The protector
In Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Prince George has two bright siblings who he is very protective of, according to a source. The insider told Us Weekly, “He takes great care of his younger sister and brother and is doing his best to help his mom with the chores!”
The dancer
In 2018, Prince William revealed to a 14-year-old dancer at an event at Kensington Palace that George has impressive moves. In a video released by the palace, the Prince of Wales revealed: “George dances too, he loves it.” A quality that he probably inherited from his late grandmother: “And my mother always danced, she loved dancing,” says William.
The benefactor
At the age of nine, George followed in his father’s footsteps and volunteered for charity. According to “The Telegraph”, he held a bake sale during the corona pandemic to support the animal welfare organization Tusk. “Prince George ran a small bake sale to raise money for Tusk during lockdown and wrote a very nice card clearly expressing his concern for Africa’s wildlife,” said chief executive Charlie Mayhew.
