The bomb exploded when a number of coalition countries of the United States (US) were evacuating their citizens at Kabul Airport. Afghans also flocked to the airport hoping to be transported by Western planes.
Shortly before the explosion, a common sight was thousands of people gathering outside the airport. This evacuation process has been going on since before the Taliban returned to control of Afghanistan on August 16.
Reported by AFP, Friday (27/8/2021) already 100,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan since August 14. Evacuations from the US and Western countries will end on August 31.
On Thursday (26/8) local time, 7,500 people were evacuated from Kabul within 12 hours. But then, an explosion occurred outside the airport area.
Biden flooded with criticism
Criticism rains down Biden from Uncle Sam’s Republican Party politician. Reported AFP, politicians blame Biden as a weak leader. Now Biden must take responsibility for the deaths of his country’s soldiers.
“Joe Biden’s hands are covered in blood,” said Republican US Congressman Elise Stefanik.
Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn asked Biden to just leave office, “Must resign or face impeachment and removal from office.”

The Former US President, Donald Trump, also criticized Biden. Reported by news.com.au and Fox news, Trump called the tragedy in Kabul very sad and shameful. “We’re led by people who don’t know what they’re doing,” Trump said.
Here are 10 facts about the bomb explosion in Afghanistan:
1. Suicide bomb
Reported by Reuters, the suicide bomb exploded outside Kabul Airport, Thursday (26/8) local time. The explosion occurred near the Abbey Gate entrance to the airport. After the bomb exploded, many men, women and children were injured in the explosion awaiting treatment outside the hospital.
2. Conducted ISIS-K
The suicide bomber was the ISIS Khorasan or ISIS-K group. ISIS propaganda news agency Amaq said the suicide bombers “were able to penetrate the security fort and were 5 meters away” from US troops. Bomber instantly detonated the belt he was wearing.
The ISIS-K group is known to be at odds with the Taliban. Reported CNN and AFP, ISIS-K is an offshoot of ISIS in Syria and Iraq in Southwest Asia and is growing in Afghanistan, one of the countries in Central Asia. ISIS-K was formed shortly after ISIS in Iraq-Syria was formed, namely 2014.
In addition to containing the original Afghan Taliban who converted, ISIS-K also contains non-indigenous Afghans. There are foreign fighters from Syria and other countries in it.
