10 Deaths from Influenza Virus in Panama: 3 Minors Among Fatalities

Panama City, Panama/Deaths from the influenza virus in the country amount to ten cases, among these 3 are minors confirmed to TVN Media, the National Director of Health, Melva Cruz.

According to the official, the minors who died are between the ages from 8 to 11 years of age, reported in the provinces of Colón, Veraguas and Panamá Oeste (Arraiján).

Among these latest deaths are those of two adults, one aged 30 and 42.

According to Cruz, as of week 20 there has been an increase in cases, that is, diagnosed by sentinel surveillance, there are approximately 400 cases.

He added that, of the 10 cases of deaths, 8 were unvaccinated and the other two are being investigated for their vaccination status, apart from this, they were patients at risk, cardiovascular, obesity, immunosuppression and one of the minors had a congenital malformation.

Cruz recommended that this population in particular, that is, the one that is vulnerable or has a risk disease, should be vaccinated.

He again urged the use of a mask, washing hands and avoiding crowds and applying distancing.
