10 people including 9 children died in a pile-up in the United States on June 20. The accident involved more than 15 vehicles and took place on the I-65 freeway near Greenville, Alabama. The Butler County medical examiner told AFP the crash was “probably” linked to storm Claudette.
As specified by the American channel CNN, 8 of the 9 children killed were aged 4 to 17 years old and were on the same bus with the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch organization, which helps victims of abuse and neglect. A 29-year-old father and her 9 month old daughter were also killed as a result of the accident. The girl was “well secured” in her car seat, but “the impact was too powerful”, can one read on the site of CNN. The driver of the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch bus may have been pulled out of the burning vehicle, but help could not save the young girls.
The accident occurred during the storm Claudette on the I-65, which has been demoted to the status of tropical depression as it reached the American coast.
