KYIV (Reuters) – At least 10 people have been killed and 58 injured in a Russian attack on the southern city of Kherson, recently recaptured by Ukrainian forces, local officials said.
Pro-Russian officials said the Ukrainian military launched the attack to denounce the Russian military.
President Volodymyr Zelensky posted photos of the area on social networking sites, where burned cars, broken glass and dead bodies were strewn. “Social media is likely to mark these photos as ‘sensitive content’. But this is not sensitive content and the situation facing Ukraine and Ukrainians,” he said. “These are not military installations. This is terrorism, killing for intimidation and pleasure,” he said.
Ukraine’s government-appointed governor Yanushevich told state television that the death toll had risen to 10, Interfax Ukraine news agency reported.
Meanwhile, the Russian-appointed Governor Sard has given up on social media, saying the Ukrainian government had ordered the military to fire on them.
A local official said the missile landed near a supermarket near Liberty Square in the city.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm Kherson’s report.
