10 Cubans accused of working illegally in Russia are expelled – 2024-05-01 23:49:38

The Russian authorities recently carried out an operation in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan, where about 10 citizens of Cuban origin were detained and accused of allegedly carrying out illegal labor activities in European territory.

Now, the five Cuban couples face a deportation process, despite claiming that they were tourists and were shopping in the territory at the time of their arrest.

According to local media Kazan Firstthe Antilleans were detained during a raid on the Rodina market and brought before the Sovetsky District Court, where they were ruled expelled for said “illegal” activity.

While the group insisted that they were only tourists, the media points out that the Cubans were found inside a perfume warehouse, outside the sales area, which generated suspicions among the authorities.

According to the note, language was another barrier that stood before the Cubans when trying to justify themselves, since none of them spoke Russian. At the end of the day, the officers had to resort to an online translator to communicate with the West Indians.

After the decision made by the Court, the Cubans were taken to the Naberezhnye Chelny Temporary Detention Center, where they must await repatriation to the Greater Antilles. Additionally, his punishment includes a ban on entry to Russia for a period of five years.

The group has the option of appealing this decision, but the situation would be complicated by the language difference and strict measures against illegal migration and unauthorized employment in Russia.

And the Russian government has carried out several raids to combat illegal migration in its territory, this as a consequence of the terrorist attack that occurred in Moscow at the end of March, where more than 100 people lost their lives at the hands of migrants from Tajikistan. After what happened, the terrorist group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.

On April 19, more than 300 foreigners were detained in Kazan, with 53 of them expelled from the country, including citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

A few weeks ago, a group of five Cubans was fined and expelled from the Nizhny Novgorod region, in the west of the country, after being accused of staying in the territory longer than legally permitted.
