1. Rediscover Bochum on a guided tour

Bochum Marketing organizes tours to the city’s special places. Whether in a group or on your own, rediscover the Jahrhunderthalle, improve your photography skills on a dinosaur photo walk or enjoy the view of Wattenscheid from the Zeche Holland! Alternatively, you can also take a guided tour of the Westpark or spend the weekend on August 16th at the after-work market on Springerplatz with delicious snacks and drinks. 2. Stroll through the flea markets in Wattenscheid

What a summer party

On August 3rd and 4th from 11am, the flea market and summer festival under the Zeche Holland winding tower awaits you with more than 170 different exhibitors! This season there will be both an artist market and live music from 12pm to 10pm. Experience a lively festival mile with joy, music, artists and culinary delicacies. A day full of surprises and a good atmosphere awaits you. Whether young or old, there is something for everyone. And the best part: admission is free!

Yard sales

Residents offer their old favorite pieces for sale in their own courtyards, gardens or garages – directly on their private property. What is special about it is the community commitment and participation of many. It is the perfect opportunity to clear out basements and attics and discover new favorite pieces, precious items and unique pieces. On August 24th in Wattenscheid Mitte and on August 31st in Höntrop, both from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can also take part in this flea market!

3. Taste your way through Bochum’s culinary delights 7 to 11 August

Bochum Kulinarisch will take place again as usual on the second weekend in August in 2024. Meet on the boulevard from August 7th to 11th and enjoy the creations of 16 participating restaurateurs. Experience how professional chefs prepare their delicacies and try homemade delicacies, beer specialties from the Moritz Fiege private brewery and fine wines in a relaxed open-air atmosphere.

4. Spend the weekend with friends at the Harpen Village Festival 16 to 19 August

The magic of the stalls begins on Friday, August 16th, and lasts until Monday, August 19th, 2024. Every day from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., around 30 rides, game stands and food stalls ensure a lively fair atmosphere. The festival area stretches from St. Vinzentius Church across Kattenstraße to Lütkendorpweg. The village festival celebrates the district’s rich history. Experience a weekend full of fun with us!

5. Feel the music at the tent festival Ruhr 16 August to 1 September

The Zeltfestival Ruhr, a 17-day cultural festival, takes place at Kemnader See from August 16 to September 1, 2024. It offers daily changing artists, a diverse range of culinary offerings and an international arts and crafts market. The festival grounds are open from 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 12 p.m. on weekends. There are also illuminations, decorations, street artists and a free children’s participation program and children’s events on the weekends. There are also daily shows by magician Kris on the Piazzetta stage. Admission is €5.00 in advance and €7.00 at the box office (cashless only); children up to 12 years of age and visitors with an event ticket have free admission.

6. Enjoy art and industrial culture at the Ruhrtriennale 16 August to 15 September

A month full of art is waiting for you! The triennial art festival can be visited again this year from August 16th to September 15th. Centennial Hall in Bochum is the centre of the Ruhrtriennale but there are many other venues. Contemporary artists perform in the monumental industrial architecture of the Ruhr metropolis. Coking plants, machine houses, halls, dumps and wastelands from the mining and steel industries are transformed into impressive venues at the interface of musical theatre, drama, dance, performance and fine art. The programme also includes five events that can be attended free of charge.

7. Experience the culture of the stalls at the Trinkhallen Day 17 August

On August 17th, the “Day of the Trinkhallen” will take place for the fourth time, a special event that pays homage to the typical Ruhrpott stalls. Under the motto “A declaration of love for the Ruhrpott stalls”, a varied cultural program will be offered, organized by Ruhr Tourismus GmbH. Visitors can look forward to live music, cabaret, retro gaming with consoles from the 80s and DIY stations.

There is a lot to discover at various stalls such as the Bergbude, the Büdchen am Stadtgarten, Conny’s Büdchen, the Glück auf! 8. Barbecue at Bochum grills in the courtyard of the Pauluskirche 24 August from 12 to 19 o’clock

This year too, the Bochum Originals – a community of values ​​founded by Bochum specialist retailers – invite all Bochum citizens to Bochum Grillt.

Guest chefs from Bochum Culinary Numerous Bochum celebrities and personalities from culture/entertainment, politics, church, sport and education will be swinging the grill tongs for a good cause, including Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, the actor and singer Uwe Fellensiek, the actor Ralf Richter, the cartoonist Oliver Hilbring, the athlete Pamela Dutkiewicz and others.
