But these visitors are faced with a phenomenon they didn’t necessarily anticipate: prices that have exploded. Across the Atlantic, inflation is, on average, double that of France. In March alone, prices rose 6.1% month over month. Worse, they’ve completely taken off in the last twelve months, up 8.5% in one year. It’s very simple, it hasn’t been seen since December 1981. The phenomenon can be explained both by the readjustment of prices, linked to the post-pandemic economic recovery, and by the fragility of the supply chains and by the war in Ukraine.
When questioned by TF1, the Fontaine family had not necessarily anticipated this problem. “From the start, we were put off by the prices. We got over $80, four of us, for burgers in the first restaurant. Without taking menus”they let go. A considerable cost in the land of burgers. But that is not all. Consequentially, “we wanted to have ice cream for dessert… 10 dollars a scoop!” – or about 9.50 euros – both parents strangled.
