The preparatory meeting of the ’10/29 Itaewon Tragedy Victims Families Association’ (provisional name), which consists of 65 bereaved families of the victims of the October 29 disaster, issued a statement yesterday (28) and said, “Carefully convey the voices of the bereaved families to the government, and we want to find out the truth and hold those responsible accountable”.
They said: “The government is conducting inquiries and investigations into only a few people responsible but is not giving any explanations to the bereaved families.”
“After the disaster, there was no government measure to allow bereaved families to ask for each other’s safety and communicate, so bereaved families had to go through their sadness and grief in isolation,” he said. “The bereaved families had to find opportunities to communicate with each other on their own.” The background of the setup has been explained.
They said: “We are trying to create a board where all bereaved families of victims can join at any time” and asked that bereaved families who wish to communicate contact them through the Human Rights Defense Center of the Public Interest of the Minbyun Advocates for a Democratic Society.
