1-Year-Old Baby Dead and Minors Hospitalized: Bronx Daycare Incident Raises Concerns over Opioid Exposure

Authorities indicate that the arrests are the result of a drug investigation at the 2707 Morris Avenue building in the Kingsbridge section, where the Divino Niño daycare is located.

It remains under investigation how the children came into contact with opioids, to which they were exposed on Friday for a prolonged period, according to initial investigations.

Emergency calls from Divino Niño daycare

Authorities responded to 911 calls last Friday in which they were informed that two minors were in cardiac arrest, and at the scene they found two children who were transferred to an emergency hospital in critical condition; one of them died shortly after.

Two other minors were hospitalized, but their condition has not been specified.

Initially, the suspicion was a carbon monoxide leak in the building where the Divino Niño daycare is located. However, this was scrapped shortly after.

At least one of the children responded to Narcan, the drug used to treat overdoses.

“ This crisis is real and is a real wake-up call for people who have opioids or fentanyl in their homes. “Our hearts are broken for the families involved,” said New York Mayor Eric Adams at a press conference.

“Just contact (with this drug) is deadly for an adult and extremely deadly for a child,” the mayor added.
