MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – One person was injured and a dog is dead after a fire broke out Wednesday morning inside a mobile home in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
The fire was reported in the area of Northwest 14th Avenue and 77th Terrace.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Department (MDFR) officials, eight units responded to the scene to extinguish the flames.
First responders confirmed that one person was taken to a hospital on trauma alert.
Three dogs were also taken from the home and given CPR, but only two survived, officials said.
Argealo Santana lives behind the trailer that caught fire and spoke with Local 10’s Joseph Ojo.
“I’m sleeping, I’m telling my wife, ‘Hey, are you cooking something in the kitchen?’ And my wife said ‘no,’” he told Ojo. “I see a lot of smoke coming in, so my wife opened the door and said, ‘It’s the neighbor.’”
Santana said he quickly sprang into action to save his neighbor, who he says inhaled a lot of smoke.
“I jumped into the building, broke the window, jumped into the house and saw the lady on the ground, so I took the lady and put her outside and the lady feels bad.”
Red Cross assistance has been requested for the resident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
