Surprisingly, Diogo Leite was missing from the line-up sheet in the run-up to the goalless duel between 1. FC Union Berlin and Schalke 04. As head coach Urs Fischer reported at the press conference afterwards, his absence was due to an illness. Timo Baumgartl stepped in for this.
Whether Leite can get involved again with a view to the upcoming Europa League game against AFC Ajax is currently still open: “I hope so,” said Fischer, who added: “But I don’t know the current status. Our medical department is always in touch with our players.”
The kick-off against the Dutch is on Thursday at 21:00. The Bundesliga continues on the following Sunday with the smash against FC Bayern Munich.
