1. FC Köln: Opponent TSG Hoffenheim in the check: coach, form

Cologne –

1. FC Köln starts the new Bundesliga season on Saturday (3.30 p.m., Sky). With TSG Hoffenheim, Markus Gisdols (51) ex-club comes to the Rhein-Energie-Stadion – Cologne fans are not allowed to be there as planned after a decision by the city of Cologne on Friday evening.

At 1899, Gisdol was under contract from April 2013 to October 2015. But what will the FC actually do with the Hoffenheim team? The opponent check:

TSG Hoffenheim’s trainer: Sebastian Hoeneß (38)

A prominent name has been sitting on the sidelines of TSG since this season: Hoeneß. But not ex-Bayern president Uli (68) or ex-Hertha manager Dieter (68), but Sebastian (38). Dieter’s son and Uli’s nephew.

For the coach, TSG is the first stop in the Bundesliga. Last season he won the championship in the third division with the second team of FC Bayern, which recommended him for higher tasks.

As an active player, Hoeneß never made it into the professional field, played in the amateur team from Hertha BSC and in the first team of Hoffenheim. Back then, however, they were still playing in the regional league. Sebastian Hoeneß ended his active football career at the age of 28 and obtained his coaching license.

Newcomers and departures from TSG Hoffenheim

TSG did not lose top performers this summer. Only Sebastian Rudy (30) had to give the club back to Schalke 04 after the loan. Steven Zuber (28) swapped TSG with Mijat Gacinovic (25) from Eintracht Frankfurt. Ex-Cologne Kevin Vogt (28) has returned after his loan to Werder Bremen and could again play an important role in defense or before that on the six. Kasim Adams (25, Fortuna Düsseldorf) and Joshua Brenet (26, Vitesse Arnheim) are also back from their loans.

Personnel situation at TSG Hoffenheim

It is not easy for TSG at the moment. In the worst case, eight players could fail against FC. Havard Nordveidt (30, broken foot), Konstantinos Stafylidis (26, shoulder injury) and captain Benjamin Hübner (31, capsule injury) will definitely not be there, all of them missing in defense.

Another defensive player, Stefan Posch (23), was unable to train in the last week of training, as was flick racer Robert Skov (24). Important players like Andrej Kramaric (29), Pavel Kaderabek (28) and Christoph Baumgartner (21) also had to step back.

The shape of TSG Hoffenheim

In the preparation TSG knew how to convince, three of the four test matches were won (7: 1 against Wiesbaden, 1: 0 against Fürth, 2: 1 against Mainz). Only against second division Nuremberg there was a sensitive 2: 5 defeat.

Not everything went smoothly in the first round of the DFB Cup last weekend. In the third division Chemnitzer FC, TSG only prevailed on penalties (3: 2).
