The explosive keeper swap at 1. FC Köln – now the demoted Jonas Urbig (21) speaks!
That’s what happened: Since the cup win against Kiel (3-0), Marvin Schwäbe (29), who was dropped as No. 1 in the summer, has been back in goal. Urbig, who is considered the greatest German keeper talent, blames frustration.
In the third part of the FC documentary “Beloved Football Club”, Urbig speaks openly about the change before the cup game, saying: “Of course I was annoyed. I always want to play!”

And further: “Nevertheless, the coach decides who will be in goal at the end of the day. Marvin also did well in training. That’s why I gave it to him. He performed well here in Cologne for two and a half years.”
The decision for Schwäbe to stay in goal in the league in Berlin was made one day before the Hertha win (1-0). “The coach spoke to us individually yesterday morning. He said he’s betting on me first. I was very pleased with that,” explained Schwäbe immediately after the Berlin game.
How Urbig reacts to his bench role in the league is no longer discussed in the documentary. The anger shouldn’t go away…
Cologne’s keeper swap! In addition to the frustration, Urbig should at least be happy about the great praise from Manuel Neuer (38). Even if the Bayern keeper’s words were recorded before Urbig was dismissed as No.1.

“He makes a really good impression, plays very well and has already come a long way,” says the 2014 world champion, who is also Urbig’s great role model. Neuer continued: “I believe that the future can belong to him. The way I assess him and perceive him from the outside is that he is down-to-earth, hard-working and he likes to work. These are of course good conditions for moving forward. Even though he has already received a lot of praise, he is still young and can still learn a lot.”
This certainly also means that he has to deal with the difficult FC situation professionally. It is undisputed that Urbig (contract until 2026) has a great future ahead of it. Bayern have been keeping an eye on him for a long time, and neighbors Leverkusen also have him on their list (BILD reported).
Urbig says: “A lot has already been written and I have been brought into contact with other clubs. I really like to look in the here and now. My job is to work with the team to lead FC back to where it belongs – and that is in the Bundesliga.”
