1. FC Köln – 1. FC Magdeburg: Pierre Nadjombe’s difficult situation before game at former club

Magdeburg/Cologne/DUR – When 1. FC Magdeburg travels to the second division top match at 1. FC Cologne this weekend, Pierre Nadjombe will have special feelings. The young defender only moved from “Effzeh” to Magdeburg in the summer. However, it is highly unlikely that the 21-year-old will even be on the bus and make the journey to his former club.

At FCM, Nadjombe is only third choice on the right wing and has not yet played in a competitive game for the professional squad. Since the start of the season, his place has been in Magdeburg’s U23 team in the Oberliga. There he is collecting playing time in order to recommend himself to coach Christian Titz.

At least: When FCM played a test match against VfL Osnabrück during the international break (4:3), Nadjombe was allowed to play in the professional jersey again. He was not able to make a lasting impression and his situation will probably remain that of a reserve in FCM’s large 32-man squad.

Nadjombe’s current situation has a long history. Cologne would have liked to work with the talented player in the pros, not least because the club is not allowed to bring in new players due to a transfer ban. But Nadjombe saw no prospects for himself at the “Geißböcken” and decided to move.

The deal was supposed to take place in the winter, but the dispute between the player and the club escalated and in the end Cologne did not let their defender move to Magdeburg early.

The Cologne native arrived there in the summer without any match practice, because at FC he had been banished to the stands after his departure was confirmed, although he had previously been a regular player.

“With Pierre, you could just tell that he hadn’t been properly involved in team training and playing for six months,” said coach Titz recently: “But he’s getting closer and we’ll give him the time.”

However, this will not have happened on Saturday in the duel with the former club for which he played in the U17, U19 and second team. So far there have only been losers when it comes to Pierre Nadjombe. But the right-back still has plenty of time to rewrite history and get off to a good start in Magdeburg.
