Heidenheim’s coach Schmidt is now the longest-serving coach in German professional football. Exactly 16 years ago to the day, the 49-year-old took over in Heidenheim and replaced former Freiburg coach Volker Finke as the longest-serving coach in the history of German professional football. Coach Frank Schmidt from 1. FC Heidenheim will set a record in German professional football in Sunday’s Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen. With more than 16 years without a break at the same club, Schmidt replaces the previous record holder Volker Finke, who formerly coached SC Freiburg.
At the same time, the Heidenheimers are hoping for the first Bundesliga victory in their club history after promotion. In the first three games of the season they only got one point with a 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund. The FCH can compete with the best possible team.
