He probably hadn’t expected that…

FC President Werner Wolf (68) and his board have been on the verge of collapse since Tuesday! Cologne’s relegation bosses were denied discharge at the general meeting and were repeatedly advised to call it quits in 2025 and ensure an orderly transition. An FC future under Wolf therefore hardly seems possible anymore.

The Cologne boss is reeling!

► 51.4 percent (652 votes) of the members present acknowledged the poor work of the FC management in the last season with relegation and a transfer ban.

► The members’ council also spoke out against the discharge of the board. The previous council boss, who was only re-elected with minimal approval from the fans, Ho-Yeon Kim (42) openly sought and even won the power struggle, attacking Wolf with harsh accusations (including indiscretion and inability to accept criticism). Even within the club, the executive committee lacks the support for re-election in 2025.

► And finally, the only candidate put forward by the board for a position in the new Members’ Council Gottfried Rüßmann (63) not to be elected. The third slap in the face for the bosses.

Wolf’s days as FC boss are numbered

What a bitter evening for Wolf!

The non-discharge (for the first time since Overath in 2011) does not have any direct consequences, but only allows the members to assert claims against the board in the future. However, it shows only too clearly that the members have finally lost their trust in Wolf.

Means: Despite his announcement (“We have decided to continue at least until the end of our term of office”), Wolf’s days at the top of FC are numbered – and with them those of his deputy bosses Carsten Wettich and Eckhard Sauren!

The only question is: How will the Cologne boss react? Will Wolf quit now? Will he announce his resignation from the board in autumn 2025? Or will he stay true to his previous Pattex slogans and ultimately force a vote at the next members’ meeting?

At least immediate resignation seems out of the question. Until recently, Wolf has always stressed that such a hasty withdrawal would never be an option for him and his vice-chairman, because it would primarily harm the club. An orderly withdrawal, on the other hand, seems increasingly likely. Because now Wolf has the membership vote that he did not want to get even after relegation…
