1 Family with COVID-19 Flying to Australia from RI On a Charter Plane

One family was found to be positive for COVID-19 before flying from Indonesia and landing in Adelaide, Australia, on a chartered plane last week.

The South Australian Department of Health has confirmed that the family has been infected with the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus.

Initially the reports circulating only mentioned coming from a country in Southeast Asia.

“A family of an adult male and female and a child from Southeast Asia were returned to South Australia last week by a private medical evacuation company,” said Dr Emily Kirkpatrick, Deputy Head of the local Public Health Agency.

However, yesterday, a spokesman for the Australian Border Force (ABF) said in a statement that his agency helped facilitate a medical evacuation flight on June 25 from Indonesia to South Australia.

The three people on the plane are known to have Australian citizenship status from the city of Adelaide, but work in Indonesia.

“Agreements and arrangements for medical evacuation were carried out in accordance with existing systems for international medical evacuation flights and in consultation with the South Australian government,” the ABF statement said.

The flight was paid for by the family.

The South Australian government then arranged for him to pick him up and take him to a quarantine hotel, the Tom’s Court hotel in Adelaide city centre.

This report comes as the Australian Federal Government’s policy regarding the number of international arrivals is being questioned by the Queensland State Government.

This was triggered after it was discovered that one of the new clusters in Brisbane was related to someone who has been back and forth to Indonesia and Australia.

It is not known whether the person is an Australian citizen or permanent resident (PR).

This person is being treated at a hospital in Brisbane and was found to have infected a receptionist, after being tracked using ‘genome sequencing’ methods.

The 19-year-old receptionist then passed it on to his younger brother who was still in school.

Queensland with the capital Brisbane is currently undergoing a ‘lockdown’ due to the new contagion.,

The Queensland government accused the federal government of not closing the border completely and allowing temporary visa holders to enter.

“These are not Australian citizens or permanent residents. In fact, as many as 20,000 Australians arrived here last month, half of whom were temporary visa holders,” said Steven Miles, Queensland Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Steven, every week people who are allowed to enter Australia consist of:

  • 600 British nationalities
  • 500 Chinese citizenship
  • More than 300 Indonesian nationalities
  • More than 250 United States nationalities
  • More than 200 Filipino citizens
  • 115 South African citizenship

But the Australian Federal Government said the Queensland Government attack was simply an attempt to divert citizens from their mistakes in managing quarantine hotels.

“Let me reiterate that the data from the Australian Border Force makes it clear that on average 80 per cent of those returning to Australia are Australian citizens, permanent residents or immediate family members,” Australian Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said.
