After Robert Lewandowski pushed him to third place in the all-time Bundesliga scorers’ list, Klaus Fischer believes in the Bayern Munich striker’s record. “There are still eight games left, he still needs five goals. It can be assumed that Gerd Müller will be caught,” said the vice world champion from 1982 in an interview with Spox and Goal. In the 1971/72 season, Müller had scored an unprecedented 40 goals.
In the all-time best list, Müller leads with 365 goals ahead of Lewandowski (271) and Fischer (268). “If Robert Lewandowski stays with Bayern Munich for three more years and stays healthy, he can certainly break Gerd Müller’s all-time record – although nobody really expected something like this to happen again,” said Fischer.
