Bundesliga soccer club 1. FC Köln has loaned out Croatian central defender Nikola Soldo (22) to second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The club announced on Wednesday that Soldo will initially remain with the Palatinate until next summer. His contract in Cologne runs until 2025.
“Nikola developed very positively in his first FC season,” said FC Managing Director Christian Keller: “We want to continue and push this development. This requires as regular match practice as possible, which he cannot do in the current constellation in our central defense will offer.”
Soldo came to Cologne from Lokomotiva Zagreb last summer, but was unable to assert himself after a decent start. Most recently, the son of long-time Bundesliga professional Zvonimir Soldo no longer played a role under coach Steffen Baumgart. Soldo has appeared seven times in the Bundesliga and four times in the Conference League for Cologne.
