1. Bundesliga: 1. BC Beuel with newcomers

It starts again! After the last matchday of the 1st team of the 1st BC Beuel was almost ten months ago for known reasons, the joy for the coming weekend is all the greater: With the game against the 1st BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim on Saturday, the Bonn team finally starts back to play in the 1st Badminton Bundesliga. The next day, the team will be guests at the SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil.

“Our players are happy that things are finally starting again,” says the new Bundesliga manager Thilo Mund, “It will be an exciting season.” “Since we’re going to rotate a lot and have a very young team overall, we’re primarily looking downwards. And of course we hope for a full hall at the home games – if Corona allows it, ”said Mund.

Despite a few well-known days of absence from various players, the 1st BC Beuel has the advantage of being able to introduce several talented newcomers at the same time: Right at the front is the Brazilian individual specialist Ygor Coelho, 24 years old and already two-time Olympic participant. The top athlete, who was born in Rio de Janeiro but currently lives and trains in Denmark, is currently ranked 50th in the world and has set high goals for his new team: He wants to make it into the play-offs and win a medal with the team . We look forward to the first season with Ygor at the 1st BC Beuel!

The Beueler team is strengthened in the double and mixed disciplines by Matthew Clare, who is also 24 years old. The English badminton player is currently number 71 in the world rankings in men’s doubles. His reinforcement will certainly lead the Beuelers one step further towards Matthew’s goal of the season to land with the team in the top two in the season’s final table.

At the German Championships held two weeks ago with his partner Christopher Klauer (TV Refrath), he proved that the third newcomer Felix Hammes is not only in singles but also in doubles and can therefore be used in many ways. Here the 22-year-old won the silver medal in the men’s doubles. “Hammer-Hammes” switched from his home club, SV Fischbach, to 1. BC Beuel and is looking forward to an exciting season in the black and yellow jersey. Above all, the well-known “mega team and spectator atmosphere” at home game days in the Erwin-Kranz-Halle in Beuel increase his anticipation for his first games for the club.

In addition to the three newcomers, the English guys Harry Huang, Zach Russ and Peter Briggs as well as the Indian Siddharth Thakur are also back this season. On the women’s side, manager Thilo Mund primarily relies on German athletes: As in the previous season, the doubles and mixed specialists Hannah Pohl and Lara Käpplein as well as the single player and on-site training Brid Stepper ensure a strong line-up. The Beueler “home grown” Hannah Pohl starts next weekend in the tenth season in the Bundesliga team of the 1. BC Beuel.

Should there be a dropout in the 1st team, there is still no shortage of staff: With the 2nd team in the 2nd Bundesliga and numerous top young athletes: inside the club, the badminton club is ideally positioned.

Due to the Corona circumstances, a total of eleven teams will start in the 1st Bundesliga in the new season instead of the usual ten. The newcomer is the Hessian SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil, where the Beuel team will play an away game on Sunday, September 12th at 12 noon. Despite a strong second division team, Dortelweil invested again in its squad last season and strengthened itself considerably for the return to the top division. In addition to the new German champion in men’s singles, Kai Schäfer, the team will be mainly Danish athletes who have already contributed to the rise to the top class. In addition, Dortelweil has secured some prominent newcomers such as the US woman Iris Wang, who is 36th in the world rankings in the women’s singles.

The day before the game against the promoted team, Beuel expects the Bischmisheim Bundesliga team to be the season’s top favorite on Saturday, September 11th, at 5 p.m. The Saarlanders, who won their tenth German championship title last season, naturally want to defend the championship this season. Therefore, it is important for the Beuel team to start the season with full commitment right from the start – the players are confident that they will succeed despite the home advantage of the opposing teams.
