$1 billion to electrify Canada Post’s fleet by 2040

Posts Canada has decided to reduce its carbon footprint significantly, and this will notably involve the electrification of the 14,000 vehicles that make up its fleet.

The goal is for 50% of these vehicles to be electric by 2030 and to reach 100% electric by 2040. The Crown corporation will invest $1 billion to make this energy transition towards an emission-free transportation network .

“The challenge is great, and we know that greening our transport is essential. That’s why we are committed to achieving carbon neutrality and having an all-electric vehicle fleet by 2040,” said Doug Ettinger, President and CEO of Canada Post.

Building management will also contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, in particular through the use of renewable energies.

Last Thursday, Canada Post showed off electric and low-emission vehicles, including some in the test phase, that will criss-cross neighborhoods west of downtown Ottawa.

Among these is a compact electric vehicle that can reach a maximum speed of 40 km/h. It will be used for delivery and collection activities for one year to assess its performance.
