The problems are piling up for 1.3 million Dutch people. For example, they have few social contacts, financial problems and difficulty with the household. The Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP) writes this in a report on Wednesday evening.
One in ten adults in the Netherlands often have financial and social problems, but are unable to solve them themselves. As a result, these people are more often lonely and less satisfied with their lives, the SCP concludes in the report “View on worries”.
The government could help this group by, among other things, making the provision of information more accessible and simpler, the SCP writes.
At present, application forms are often complicated, the aid system is difficult to understand and information is usually only available digitally.
The advisory body advises municipalities in particular to pay more attention to this vulnerable group of people and not to overestimate their self-reliance. “Municipalities seem to assume a self-reliant and (digitally) skilled citizen.”
