0: 9 debacle of the Flyers with Raffl at the New York Rangers

The Carinthian ice hockey professional Michael Raffl slipped into a 9-0 debacle at the New York Rangers with the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday evening. The outstanding man on the ice was Mika Zibanejad, who prepared three hits in the middle section before doing a flawless hat trick. With six points in a third, the son of an Iranian and a Finnish woman, who became world champion with Sweden in 2018, equaled the record in the National Hockey League (NHL).

So far, only Canadian-born Bryan Trottier had achieved such a yield. The six-time Stanley Cup winner had on December 23, 1978 in the 9: 4 home win of the New York Islanders over the Rangers also recorded six points with three goals and assists in the middle third. Trottier, who played for both the national teams of Canada and the USA and has been a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame since 1997, scored one goal in the first and last section and ended up with eight points.

In total, the Flyers conceded seven goals in the middle section and thus more than ever before in a third in their 54-year club history. Raffl was only on the ice when one goal was conceded. Philadelphia is now only 18th in the best ice hockey league in the world.

The Rangers’ run-of-the-mill victory was not only remarkable because of Zibanejad’s record. They came to the highest victory since March 31, 1986 (9-0 against the New Jersey Devils) without head coach David Quinn and three of his assistants who had to stay away from the game due to anti-corona measures.

NHL-Ergebnisse vom Mittwoch: New York Rangers – Philadelphia Flyers (mit Michael Raffl) 9:0, Ottawa Senators – Vancouver Canucks 2:3 n.P., Winnipeg Jets – Montreal Canadiens 4:3 n.V., Vegas Golden Knights – San Jose Sharks 5:4, Los Angeles Kings – St. Louis Blues 4:1, Calgary Flames – Edmonton Oilers 3:7
