Legend Robbie Fowler claims that Liverpool “Sell” Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian wants to leave Anfield this summer and Jurgen Klopp can use the money to rebuild – as they did when selling £ 145million Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
Salah has been the Reds’ key man since joining Anfield almost four years ago and led the Merseysiders to a Champions League triumph in 2019 and the Premier League title last season.
But with the Reds languishing outside the top four spots and Salah continually linked with a move to the Real Madrid or to Barcelona, ex-Liverpool striker Fowler believes Jurgen Klopp should let the attacker go if his heart is elsewhere.
The former England striker told the Mirror : ”I will not try to Salah. I love her so much. But I really believe that transfers are now largely about what the players want, so the ball is in their court, not Liverpool’s ”.
“If he wants to go, then he should go. If a player wants to leave, we have to accept that it’s in the mix.
“I firmly believe that if they are unhappy and want to go, they should go”.
Since arriving from Rome in the summer of 2017, Salah has scored 118 goals in 189 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions and has formed a partnership with Roberto Firmino et Sadio Mané.
While Salah has 24 goals in 37 league appearances this season, Liverpool are seventh in the Premier League table ahead of Fulham’s visit on Sunday, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
The Reds also lost in the FA Cup fourth round to Manchester United and although they likely reach the Champions League quarter-finals as they led RB Leipzig 2-0 in the last 16 first legs, their progress under Klopp retreated. .
Fowler believes Klopp could treat Salah the same way he handled Philippe Coutinho’s desire to leave Anfield. The Brazilian was sold to Barcelona for an initial fee of £ 105million in January 2018 after question marks were asked about his future.
Fowler added: “Jurgen Klopp also said the same thing – he doesn’t want anyone at the club who doesn’t want to be there. It is my conviction that it was his attitude with Philippe Coutinho. He was agitated for a movement ”.
Klopp didn’t want Coutinho because he thought his attitude was wrong, and he didn’t want that poison in his camp in the end.
“So if Salah is really upset, if he’s upset he hasn’t got a new contract or whatever, then cash in, get as much as you can for him and use the money to make adjustments with the current team.
“I’m a fan of Salah, obviously who wouldn’t be?” But Liverpool haven’t missed Coutinho much, have they?
Salah and Klopp’s relationship appeared to reach a new low when the Egyptian winger was replaced by the Liverpool manager on time even though the Reds lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea.
The winger was a dejected figure on the substitutes bench for the remainder of the game as Liverpool lost a fifth straight home game in the Premier League.
