The German Salt Museum celebrated its 35th anniversary at a festive event with invited guests. Numerous well-wishers from politics, the city and the state as well as members of the Lüneburg council, including founding members and supporters of the museum, attended and conveyed their congratulations. After welcoming those present, Mayor Claudia Kalisch presented a certificate to museum director Dr. Alexandra Hentschel to recognize the importance of the museum for the city and the region. In a convivial atmosphere over coffee and cake, the guests reminisced about the not always easy creation and maintenance of the industrial monument. Even though some of the cultural workers from the difficult early days were missing, the 35th anniversary was the focus of the celebrations.
Next Sunday, September 8th, the museum will open its doors as part of the “Day of the Open Monument” with free admission. Visitors can look forward to guided tours of the permanent exhibition, and there will also be salty popcorn and face painting for children. Outside, the boiling hut will be open, where a salt maker will demonstrate medieval salt boiling over an open fire.
Since September 3rd, the special exhibition “35 Years of the Salt Museum – Voices from the City” has been running, which sheds light on the history of the museum and its importance for the region. It is therefore worth a visit to discover something new.
