The Tour of Lombardy was – as expected – won by world champion Tadej Pogacar. This time too, the Slovenian won with a solo. He attacked 48 kilometers from the finish and left the competition without a chance.

Large leading group, no worries

After the initial phase it seemed to be a difficult story for Pogacar and his team. A large leading group of more than 20 riders had broken away from the peloton. While UAE Team Emirates was alone in the chase.

At one point the group, including Thymen Arensman, Wilco Kelderman and Martijn Tusveld, had an almost five-minute lead. However, Pogacar’s team was not concerned and put things right.

On the Colma di Sormano, UAE led the attack of the top favorite with a hugely high pace. After Arensman and Xandro Meurisse were the last escapees, Pogacar then launched his attack.

The Slovenian flew away and left the rest without a chance. At the top of the Sormano he was already more than a minute ahead of Remco Evenepoel, Enric Mas and Lennert Van Eetvelt. So it was already clear that Pogacar was going to win this Tour of Lombardy.

More than 3 minutes

Remco Evenepoel rode away from Mas and Van Eetvelt in the descent and then continued solo for second place. He never came close to the world champion. Pogacar continued to drive further away and eventually won with a lead of 3 minutes and 16 seconds ahead of Evenepoel.

Some riders returned in the group behind Evenepoel, including Giulio Ciccone. The Italian jumped away in the final and rode to third place. That was already more than four and a half minutes.
