This visit comes after a cabinet meeting held on Monday, May 8, during which the Minister Delegate, in charge of Security, the Chief Commissioner of Police, Mahamadou SANA, considered it necessary for all the first officials responsible for Security to better discover the โSmart Burkina Fasoโ project.
“I had the chance to visit the project for the first time last week with the Minister in charge of Digital Transition and I felt it was appropriate for me to return with those responsible for the chain of command to discover the project and see to what extent we can readjust and anticipate thingsโ, underlined the Minister Delegate SANA, at the start of the discussions.
After setting the context, there followed a presentation of the Project, provided by the Divisional Commissioner of Police, Issiaka TOU, head of the said project. “Smart Burkina Faso” aims, according to Issiaka TOU, to provide large urban centers, in particular the cities of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, with a radiocommunication and video protection system in order to strengthen the operational capacities of the security forces in their mission. securing populations and combating urban delinquency. Eventually, a total of 800 km of fiber optic network will be installed across the country in order to effectively fight against insecurity and urban crime, he added.
This presentation raised questions of comprehension but above all suggestions and contributions from the first persons in charge of Safety. They wanted the involvement of all actors in the security chain in the implementation of the project for better results. In addition, the visitors of the day suggested financial readjustments on the part of technical and financial partners, in order to holistically take into account the issue of urban security.
After having conducted a guided tour of the premises and facilities of the “Smart Burkina Faso” Project, the officials in charge of Security welcomed the merits of the initiative which, according to them, will ultimately constitute an effective tool in the fight against insecurity in all its aspects. Indeed, the Minister SANA, in view of the current context, recalled the need to strengthen security through the gateways to urban centers and those of checkpoints across the country.
Created in 2020 with the coverage area of โโthe cities of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, the “Smart Burkina Faso” Project will eventually cover the thirteen (13) regional capitals.
