[정치]President Moon “condemns the suppression of violence in Myanmar”… will future measures be taken?

International condemnation is rising as Myanmar’s military bloodshed against peaceful coup protests.

President Moon Jae-in also condemned the violent suppression and urged the release of detainees. It is noteworthy whether a follow-up action will be made to the Myanmar military.

Citizens who protested against the coup were sacrificed one after another due to the bloody suppression of the Myanmar military.

President Moon Jae-in also expressed his position for the first time amid criticism from the international community.

President Moon condemned the suppression of violence by the Myanmar military and police, and stressed that there should be no more deaths.

In addition, he urged the immediate release of detained personnel, including state adviser Aung San Suu Kyi.

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun also said that the painful memories of Gwangju will be revived and that we will find a way to do it.

Our government has been actively taking a stand since the beginning of the Myanmar crisis.

First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong-Geon called on the Myanmar ambassador to stop using violence against the protesters in the meeting with the ambassadors of 10 ASEAN countries.

Last month, the Ambassador of Myanmar to Korea was called to demand the release of detained personnel.

However, the problem is that it is difficult to find effective measures.

Measures such as the reduction of official development aid to Myanmar, which amounted to $85 million as of last year, are discussed, but it is questionable whether it will change the behavior of the military.

I am worried about how raising my voice on the Myanmar issue will appear to other ASEAN member states that adhere to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.

However, as a country that has experienced a similar struggle for democratization, it cannot be seen that the ruthless repression of the military is inevitable, and the government is struggling with appropriate countermeasures.
