After the war in Ukraine, North Korea strengthened the logic of Russian aggression and Russia canceled further UN sanctions against North Korea, showing that relations between North Korea and Russia are strengthening.

North Korea, however, has drawn a line that it never has and has no plans to engage in the arms trade that could be read as participation in the war.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February, North Korea has consistently sided with Russia.

They vote against the adoption of the UN resolution condemning Russia and openly defend the Russian logic, arguing that the origin of the Ukrainian crisis lies in the hegemonic policies of the United States and the West.

North Korea has also officially recognized the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic, declared by pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

Russia, Syria and North Korea are the only countries in the world that have recognized the independence of these two countries.

Going one step further, they are known to be pushing for a plan to send workers to the Donbass reconstruction project.

Russia is also responding to North Korea’s response by vetoing the UN Security Council resolution on additional sanctions against North Korea.

The Russian ambassador to Pyongyang also virtually sympathized with North Korea’s stance, saying that South Korea should not allow the distribution of leaflets to North Korea to prevent escalation of tensions on the Korean peninsula.

The relationship between the two countries strengthens as Russia, which must avoid isolation from the international community, and North Korea, which must emerge from the economic crisis as soon as possible, align.

In the midst of this, North Korea has publicly denied rumors of an arms trade between North Korea and Russia raised by the United States.

“We have never exported weapons or ammunition to Russia in the past and we have no plans to do so in the future,” he said.

Although North Korea is strengthening its strategic solidarity with Russia, it is being interpreted as a signal that it will not take any action that could be involved in a military confrontation that took place abroad.
