From yesterday morning to afternoon, 19 Chinese and Russian military aircraft crossed the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone, Cadiz.
The forces of both China and Russia held joint exercises in the East Sea, and it is unusual for so many Chinese-Russian military aircraft to enter Cadiz without permission.
Let’s find out what it means by connecting reporters to the Ministry of Defense. Reporter Moonkyung Kim!
First, let’s look at yesterday’s situation.
When did Chinese-Russian military aircraft enter Cadiz without permission?
[기자]
First, I will explain the video released by the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
This is a screen released yesterday by Chinese-Russian military planes after completing combined training in the East Sea. If you look at the screen, you can see Chinese and Russian military planes, and it is presumed to be a scene in which they are training in the East Sea.
This is a video taken by the Russian Air Force, and a Chinese H-6K bomber flying near the Sukhoi fighters stands out.
Previously, Chinese military aircraft began unauthorized entry, followed by Russian military aircraft.
Even after a little past 8 am, Chinese military planes came from the west, and Russian planes came into the East Sea shortly afterward.
This means that they entered Cadiz from the south and northeast of the Korean peninsula, respectively.
The military officials said that the time when these military aircraft completely withdrew from Cadiz was around 3:20 pm.
I didn’t stay in Cadiz for more than 7 hours, and the situation continued to come in and out.
Military officials said that it appears that they have entered the ROK air defense identification zone about 10 times.
[앵커]
If so, what kind of military aircraft came in and how did you enter Cadiz without permission?
[기자]
There were 19 in total, mostly bombers from both countries capable of flying long distances.
China had four H-6 bombers in the lead, and Russia had 15 Tupolev bombers of the Tu-95 series, Sukhoi fighter jets, and 15 A-50 early warning and control planes coming down to Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
It is a bomber representing both countries and is classified as a strategic bomber because it can carry nuclear weapons.
In Russia, Sukhoi fighters have also entered the battle, but they do not appear to stay for a long time due to flight distance restrictions.
Military officials said that some Russian bombers were known to have descended further from the south of Ieodo and then returned to the north.
[앵커]
It is said that some of the Chinese-Russian military aircraft that entered this way were trained in the East Sea. How did you find out?
[기자]
Early in the morning, even though Ire, I entered Cadiz to the west, and two out of the four headed straight northeast.
This Chinese bomber was headed east of Ulleungdo.
When the Chinese bombers went north, this time the Russian bombers and fighters went south.
Similarly, it was confirmed that they flew to the vicinity of Ulleungdo and Dokdo, met with Chinese bombers, and conducted joint exercises.
Military officials said that the combined training of Russian and Chinese military aircraft was a joint air-to-air patrol, which was a training to strengthen the interaction between China and Russia and improve the ability of joint action.
[앵커]
Previously, we used the expression “unauthorized entry”. How did our response take place in the process of entering the Chinese-Russian military aircraft?
[기자]
Cadiz, as it is well known, is not airspace.
Accordingly, we use the expression “unauthorized entry” instead of “invading”.
If so, it’s not airspace, but the key is why you need permission to enter.
Cadiz is an English abbreviation for the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone, and as the name suggests, it is a military term.
This air defense identification zone is adopted by most countries not only in Korea, but also in Northeast Asia such as China, Japan, and Taiwan.
As a kind of safety device to prevent conflict between the military authorities of the two countries, it is obligatory to seek understanding in advance if possible, but do not enter the other side’s air defense identification area.
It’s a kind of international norm.
I also said it was a duty, but since it is not our airspace, there is no disadvantage even if you do not notify in advance, and you cannot use force to forcefully evict.
However, when a Russian military aircraft invaded the airspace of Dokdo in July of last year, the Korean Air Force fired a warning fire and evicted it.
This time, since it is not an airspace invasion, all our Air Force can respond to is blocking maneuvers, or tactical actions, to prevent entry into Cadiz without permission.

If so, how are the training objectives evaluated? It seems that it will have to be seen as a move conscious of the United States.
[기자]
Experts are analyzing that it appears that during the period of the US regime change, the Russian military authorities seem to have focused on joint strengthening training.
In particular, it was confirmed that some of the Russian bombers went further south to Ieodo and then headed north.
This is also analyzed as a measure aimed at the conflict between the US and China in the South China Sea.
Among these, there is also the response nature of US-Japan joint training.
On the 16th, two US Air Force strategic bombers B-1B Lancer, called the Death Swan, conducted joint training with Japanese Air Self-Defense Force fighters in the East Sea.
At the time, it is known that the US-Japan military authorities mobilized 15 F-15 and F-2 fighters belonging to the Self-Defense Forces in addition to the B-1B strategic bombers for combined exercises conducted in the East Sea, East China Sea, and Okinawa seas.
On the 4th, two weeks before this, the United States also conducted joint exercises with Japan using B-1B bombers.
The problem is our soldiers, because while these countries are engaged in joint training, if there is a situation that invades the airspace like last year, accidental situations may arise.
North Korea’s winter training is also underway, and it seems that it is facing a situation where the burden is increasing as it is necessary to pay close attention to the movements of the Chinese military authorities in the future.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday expressed regret to China and Russia and called for a relapse.
However, China and Russia’s Pentagon said it was a regular patrol flight, while the US State Department made a check move, emphasizing that it would stop attempts to destabilize the region.
