At the memorial mass, the priests placed flowers in remembrance of the victims and Father Kim Yeong-sik, head of the priesthood, read the names of the victims one by one and prayed for them.
In a statement released at the end of the commemorative mass, the priests’ association criticized the government’s response, stating: “We have not prepared for the expected disaster and have appealed for the situation on the brink of tragedy, but the officials, who lived well on the blood tax, he remained unaware of what was going on.”
