Doosan Energy has developed a solution for identifying weld defects using AI technology.
A solution called D-Vision was introduced for the first time this year, and is capable of finding defects just as well as a professional inspector.
Reporter Bae Seok-won reports.

RT film is used to check for defects in welded pipes and tubes.

D-Vision, developed by Doosan Energy, detects defects just by looking at the film.

It was developed and used internally for about six years, and was officially released in March of this year.

By learning numerous non-destructive inspection image data, you can find internal defects in welds at an expert level.

The explanation is that this technology can fill the growing number of vacancies for non-destructive inspectors.

“I think the biggest difficulty in the field right now is that the number of non-destructive testing experts is decreasing, and the areas where we can find such experts are concentrated in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions. So, this is the problem. “If a solution is developed that can support these experts, a small number of readers can actually handle a large amount of work.”

The biggest features include cost reduction, shortened reading time, and accurate defect confirmation.

In the future, we plan to apply this technology throughout the industry.

“This area of non-destructive testing is not just limited to the power generation field, but is a widely used inspection technology in oil refineries, gas companies, general manufacturing, and even construction. So, this is not only used in our power generation market, but more broadly throughout the industry. “Our direction is to ensure that it can be utilized for various purposes.”

Doosan Energy unveiled its own solutions using artificial intelligence technologies, such as predictive diagnosis and combustion optimization, as well as D-Vision, at the recently held DX Forum.
