[사회]’Rambling to 17 degrees below zero…’ Outages and outages of 38,000 households in substation fire

In the midst of the arctic cold wave, 38,000 households in Incheon trembled in the cold due to power outages and outages.

It was caused by a fire from a nearby substation, and the residents suffered great inconvenience as they overlapped until the rush hour.

The dark dawn has not yet dawned.

The hazy smoke rises constantly from the building.

Only lights flash with the sound of a fire truck horn on a road that is off.

The fire at KEPCO’s Sinopyeong substation was around 6 am.

It is said that a fire started in a substation on the first floor that converts electricity produced by the power plant.

About 100 firefighters urgently mobilized about 40 equipment to start firefighting.

The light went out in 1 hour and 10 minutes. In the aftermath of the fire, electricity and tap water were cut off for over 38,000 households in Bupyeong-gu and Gyeyang-gu.

Because of this, in a cold wave of -17 degrees Celsius, the residents trembled in the cold without using hot water or heaters.

In particular, due to the rush hour, I was unable to wash properly and left, or being late, causing great inconvenience.

[정혜빈 / 인천 갈산동 : 헤드라이트 찾아서 휴대전화 불빛으로 불빛 보면서 준비하고…. 물이 끊겨서 1시간 동안 씻지도 못하고 준비도 못 해서 지각했어요.]

There were over 70 reports of power outages and 13 reports of being trapped in an elevator.

KEPCO pulled electricity from another substation and resumed electricity supply within 1 hour and 40 minutes after the fire broke out.

As a result of the first investigation, it was found that the transformer in the substation first caught fire.

[한전 관계자 : 전력공급 설비 일부에서 고장이 나서 정전이 됐고요. (한파) 원인 규명을 해봐야 하기 때문에 아직 정확하게는 알 수 없습니다.]

KEPCO plans to identify the exact cause of the fire through joint precision identification with firefighting.
