As both Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Park Young-soo’s special prosecutors’ team decided not to reappeal the bribery case of Gukjeong Nongdan, the sentence of two years and six months of imprisonment was confirmed.
Along with the analysis that there was no real benefit to be reapplied in the first place, some interpretations suggest that it was in mind that Lee would be subject to parole within this year.

On the last day when we could disagree with the ruling on the revocation court, it was Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong who first announced his intention to give up the re-appeal.
Through the attorney, he gave only a brief position that he had decided not to reappeal, saying he accepted the ruling humbly.
The special prosecutor, who had been struggling until the last minute, gave up re-appeal, saying that it judged that the ruling of the remand court had followed the purpose of the Supreme Court’s decision.
Compared to the nine-year imprisonment, Vice-Chairman Lee’s punishment is lighter, but under the Criminal Procedure Act, only the death penalty, life imprisonment, imprisonment for more than 10 years, and imprisonment can be contested again, so there is no legitimate reason for appeal.
In the end, it is interpreted as seeing that both sides saw no benefit to be gained even if they were judged by the Supreme Court once more.
Accordingly, the two years and six months imprisonment sentenced to Vice-Chairman Lee for repatriation of destruction was confirmed.
After being arrested in February 2017, Vice Chairman Lee has already served for about a year, and the actual remaining sentence is about a year and a half.

In particular, after eight months, two-thirds of the sentence will be filled and the requirement for parole will be met.
It is also possible to be eligible for parole or special pardon during Chuseok or Christmas this year.
Some interpretations say that this is the main background in which Vice Chairman Lee decided that it would be advantageous to get a sentence sooner.
Vice Chairman Lee is also being tried for illegal intervention in the process of merging Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries to take over management rights.
Although the Gukjeong Nongdan case is over, it is inevitable for a while to stand in court under arrest for the time being, as well as to avoid further punishment.
