Countermeasures to prevent overworking of courier workers are prepared by social consensus organizations that involve labor unions, couriers, and the government.

However, as the conflict between the union and the courier continues, it is hard to find a contact point.

Reporter Hong Min-ki summarized the reasons why the consensus was not reached.

In October of last year, the National Assembly initiated the “Living and Logistics Act,” called the “Courier Workers Prevention Act”.

However, there have been criticisms that the core content, such as who will be responsible for the classification task identified as the root cause, has been omitted.

Two months later, the ruling party formed a social consensus body by gathering labor and experts to fill the gap.

Meanwhile, the accidents and deaths of courier workers continued.

Two people died in December of last year, and one worker at Hanjin Courier collapsed from a brain hemorrhage this year, and two people died and three people died.

The union’s voice is that companies bowed their heads and the National Assembly came out, but nothing really has changed.

There are two main issues of social consensus over overworked courier workers.

The sharpest question is whether the driver or the courier will be responsible for the sorting process.

The union’s insistence on picking up and delivering to the courier service and sorting to the courier service.

At the first meeting, opinions seemed to be gathering in this direction, but it became the starting point again at the second meeting due to opposition from the management.

In October of last year, major couriers announced that they would put additional manpower into sorting.

CJ Logistics has 4,000 people, and Lotte and Hanjin Express have 1,000 people each.

However, the labor union points out that Lotte and Hanjin did not keep their promises, and CJ Logistics is also passing costs to drivers.

In response, courier companies are refuting that it takes time to achieve the goal because they are putting sorting personnel in order for each agency.

Labor and management sit at the fifth consensus table today (19th).

Appropriate working hours and plans to increase courier rates will be discussed at the meeting.

If the union fails to reach an agreement this time, the union voted for the members and struck a general strike from the 27th.
