[사회]Correctional facilities with quarantine holes…Promote total inspection of the metropolitan area

After 200 confirmed cases occurred in the eastern detention center in Seoul, a case of infection was also confirmed at the Seoul detention center, causing an emergency to quarantine at correctional facilities.

The Ministry of Justice decided to carry out a total inspection of 17,000 people who were accommodated in correctional facilities throughout the metropolitan area.

This is the last 20 days when the collective infection in the eastern detention center in Seoul began in earnest.

As it is an enclosed group living facility, the infection spread rapidly, and the number of confirmed cases revealed through total inspection exceeded 200.

Separately, a recent Seoul detention center was also confirmed, and when we examined contacts in the detention center, two more were positive.

The Ministry of Justice immediately conducted a full inspection on about 3,000 people, including all employees and prisoners of the Seoul Detention Center.

Former President Park Geun-hye, Pastor Kwang-Hoon Jeon, and Jae-Hyun Kim, CEO of Optimus Asset Management were also included in the test.

As the detention center foot infection spread, the Ministry of Justice announced that it would carry out a full inspection of prisoners of correctional facilities throughout the metropolitan area after consulting with the quarantine authorities.

There are 9 correctional facilities in the metropolitan area, and only 17,000 people are subject to total inspection.

In addition to the Seoul detention center and the Seoul eastern detention center, which have already completed or are in progress, the Seoul South Prison and Detention Center, Suwon and Incheon Detention Center Anyang, Uijeongbu and Hwaseong Vocational Training Prison are included.

Correctional facilities have been regarded as representative vulnerable facilities with a high possibility of spreading to groups when an infected person occurs due to the nature of people living in closed spaces.

Experts pointed out that in a situation where there are many asymptomatic infections, the correctional authorities did not test for Corona 19 before and after admittance to prisoners, which made a hole in the quarantine.

In the aftermath of a group infection in the correctional facility, the trials of prisoners have been delayed, and it seems that it remains to be seen how much the Ministry of Justice’s belated total inspection measures can prevent the spread of infection.
