[백브리핑AI] Dongwon promotes acquisition of McDonald’s Korea…”Strengthening the restaurant distribution sector”

[인포스탁데일리=원주호 기자] Dongwon plans to take over McDonald’s Korea.

Dongwon Industries’ strategy is to diversify its business portfolio by strengthening the restaurant distribution business through the acquisition of McDonald’s.

It is also predicted as part of the governance reorganization.

A media outlet reported that Dongwon Industries participated solely in the preliminary bidding for the acquisition of McDonald’s Korea.

It is said that the first due diligence was conducted last week and full-scale price negotiations have begun.

The two sides are known to have held working-level negotiations on detailed conditions such as price and operation method several times prior to the main bidding.

The acquisition price of McDonald’s is expected to be around 500 billion won in the market.

If Dongwon acquires McDonald’s exclusive business rights, McDonald’s will receive a 5% royalty.

Dongwon reorganized the group’s governance structure through the acquisition of McDonald’s, and it is the first large-scale investment.

Dongwon is determined to emerge as a comprehensive living industry company by strengthening the restaurant business through participation in this acquisition.

It is a strategy to acquire large global franchises and develop capabilities in the restaurant sector by utilizing the experience of rapidly expanding the business territory through active mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

The problem is that McDonald’s Korea has recorded losses for the past three years in a row.

In the last 2021 years, sales achieved the largest scale with 8679 billion won, but the business loss recorded 278 billion won.

This is because costs such as outsourcing services, raw material costs, labor costs, and replacement of cooking utensils have increased.
