[모두발언] 46th Cabinet Meeting – Press Release | Meeting room | news

46th Council of State

– 18.10.2022 (Tue) 10:00, Sejong Government Complex –

Last weekend, the Pangyo data center fire caused serious inconvenience to many people. Some services are now resumed, but it will take some time before they can fully return to normal. Digital services are already an inseparable part of our daily life. If there is a problem in the network, people’s daily lives can be paralyzed and it can be fatal to national security. We are a global IT powerhouse. This incident does not live up to the reputation of such an IT powerhouse. It is an issue that cannot be overlooked.

First of all, we want to focus on quick recovery, but ultimately we ask you to come up with various measures to prevent recurrence along with a thorough investigation of the cause. For Korea to be reborn as a true IT powerhouse, it must have an internal operation that matches the external aspect of advanced technology. In addition, the technology and services on which people depend must also have high consumer protection obligations and responsibilities. I would like the relevant ministries to actively investigate whether there are any issues that require a review of the system from the point of view of public protection.

Last week I went to Chile, Uruguay and Argentina to build a cooperation network with Latin American countries. Latin America is a concentrate of resources and a key partner for our economic security. This time, we met with the leaders of the three Latin American countries and decided to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including minerals and energy, in the process of reorganizing the global supply chain. Furthermore, we have decided to make joint efforts to overcome global crises such as climate change and economic security.

During this visit, the leaders of Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and 33 Latin American countries gathered at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) to express our ability and willingness to host the ” Busan World Expo 2030 “, and was well received. Hosting the World Expo in Busan is a great opportunity to emerge as a global hub by sharing Korea’s vision for a better future and innovation capacity with the world. I hope that every member of the Council of State will actively promote our strengths also in talks with overseas staff, with the heavy responsibility of each as an ambassador by invitation.
