[국제]Trump lawyers “impeachment is political retaliation, witch hunt”

On the fourth day of the Senate impeachment trial by former US President Donald Trump, Trump’s lawyers criticized the impeachment campaign as an unconstitutional act of political retaliation and a witch hunt.

Attorney Michael van der Wien argued in a pleading with senators on the 12th local time, saying, “This terrible abuse of the Constitution will further divide the country in a time when it must be united.”

He also stressed that the allegation that former President Trump did not urge illegal activity during the January 6 invasion of Congress, “the claim that he recommended illegal activity in any way is an absurd lie.”

Attorney David Shoen accused the House Impeachment Commission of Trump’s speech as the grounds for inciting civil wars for distorting the whole context by manipulating evidence and selectively editing videos.

It is reported that the lawyers will only use about 4 hours out of the 16 hours given to them.

There is a possibility that a vote will be reached tomorrow, on the 13th local time, as soon as possible after the senators’ inquiries and final defense of both sides.

The outlook prevails that the possibility is slim, as the Republican Party would have to vote for 17 people to pass the impeachment bill in the Senate.
