[국제]”The South African mutant virus may not work for corona antibody treatment”

Concerns have been raised that COVID-19 antibody treatments may not be effective against the South African mutant virus.

Eli Lilly’s chief science officer Daniel Skobroski told Reuters on Sunday that the company’s COVID-19 neutralizing antibody treatment works against the UK mutant, but may not be able to neutralize the virus against the South African mutant.

He then explained that although it is being tested, the South African mutant virus has many dendritic protein changes that can make the antibody less effective.

Anthony Pouch, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, expressed a similar view.

Pouch said the South African mutant virus could pose a threat to antibody treatments at the Schmidt Future Forum event on the 12th local time.

Pouch emphasized that preliminary data suggests that the South African mutant virus could circumvent some of the protection provided by antibody treatments, which poses an even greater threat.
