In Peru, one of those who participated in a clinical trial for a COVID-19 vaccine by a Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinofam was temporarily suspended due to neurological symptoms.
According to AFP and Reuters news agency on the 13th local time, the Peruvian health authorities decided to suspend the clinical trial on the 11th when one participant showed symptoms of improper arm movement.
A clinical trial official said the participant had symptoms similar to Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Guillain-Barre syndrome is an unknown cause of inflammation in the peripheral nerves, causing pain and paralysis in the limbs.
The Peruvian Ministry of Health is investigating whether this symptom in clinical trial participants is related to a vaccine or for other causes.
The Peruvian clinical trial of the sinofam vaccine in 12,000 people was about to end within a few days.
In addition to Peru, Sinopharm has been clinically conducted in Argentina, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
