[국제]November US Producer Prices 7.4%↑…more than market expected

Last month, the US producer price index rose more than market expectations, throwing cold water on expectations that inflation would be contained.

As a result, there is an analysis that the US will continue to raise interest rates next year.

The US Department of Labor announced that November’s producer price index, PPI, rose 0.3% from the previous month and 7.4% from the same month last year.

Compared with the same month of the previous year, the rate of increase decreased for the fifth consecutive month, but the rate of increase compared with the previous month remained at the same level for the third consecutive month.

The rate of increase in November’s PPI beat experts’ growth forecasts of 0.2% MoM and 7.2% YoY compiled by Bloomberg News.

Until now, optimism has prevailed in the US that supply chain bottlenecks will be resolved, producer prices will slow, and eventually consumer prices will fall.

This is the so-called “peak inflation theory”.

However, November data showed that inflation in the US was not doing so well.

Excluding energy and food, core PPI also rose 0.4% month-on-month, topping expectations by 0.2%.

Compared to a peak of 11.7% in March, year-over-year PPI was 7.4% in November, showing a modest but still large increase.

The slowdown is slower than market expectations.

On the 13th local time, the CPI consumer price index for November will be announced, and on the 14th, the US Federal Reserve will determine the last rate hike for this year.

Attention is turning to the possibility that the Fed, which previously took a “fourth consecutive giant leap” with a 0.75% hike, will start adjusting pace.
