Kyodo News reported, citing multiple government officials that Prime Minister Suga said at a New Year’s press conference that he would review the declaration of an emergency for four municipalities in the metropolitan area including Tokyo.

Prime Minister Suga said that half of the confirmed cases of Corona 19 have recently occurred, and that he will review the emergency as a countermeasure to strengthen quarantine in this area.

Corona 19 Minister Nishimura held a press conference and explained that even if an emergency is declared, he is not thinking about measures such as closing schools as in April last year.

NHK reported that four local governments in the metropolitan area, including Tokyo, expressed their welcome to the government’s measures and are coordinating measures to refrain from going out from the 8th to the end of this month and shorten the restaurant business to 8:00pm.
